The IDF says the “counterintelligence directorate in Hamas’ general security apparatus,” which Amjad Muhammad Hassan Shaer headed, is tasked with ‘suppressing opposition to the regime, counter-espionage and securing senior Hamas officials and their assets in the Gaza Strip and outside of it’.
