We’ve all been there. Using “play” to train things like fetch or leave. Using “play” to exercise our dogs, to tire them out. Excusing our dogs with “they’re only playing.” But here’s the thing the wolf taught us: wolves don’t play. And actually, neither do dogs. What looks like play is something far more important. It’s how the nervous system gets stronger, practising how to hold steady under stress. It’s daily rehearsal for defence and hunting. It’s relationship in motion - cues of safety that
